Go See Cirque Italia this Weekend in Downtown Punta Gorda

Wednesday, February 26th, 2014

You don’t have to catch a plane to travel this weekend.

Europe is coming to Punta Gorda!

February 28- March 2, 2014, Cirque Italia will set up its tent at the downtown marketplace. The Cirque features a unique water stage that holds over 35,000 gallons of water. The water, which shoots up through fountains around the performers, adds an extra element of danger and excitement. You can expect to see rope and silk acts, trapeze artists, clowns, jugglers, high wire daredevils, mermaids, a laser man, acrobats, and teeter board stunts.

Cirque Italia is touring the United States putting on a one-of-a-kind performance at an affordable price. Tickets cost $10-$50. It is rare that you could be up close and personal with performers like these for less than $50.

The show’s owner, Manuel Rebecchi, comes from a family of circus performers. Originally from Italy, Rebecchi moved to the United States in 2003.  His dream was to create a one-of-a-kind performance for the whole family. According to the Cirque Italia’s website, the show can be described as “a sort of Bellagio meets Broadway!”

In 2012, the show originated in Venice, FL. The Chief Operating Officer and producer, Chantes DeMoustes hails from Clearwater. At just 25 years old, she has been dancing, choreographing, and performing for almost 20 years.

You can buy tickets online here. The show often sells out, so purchase your tickets ahead of time.

Showtimes are:

Friday, February 28—7:30 p.m.

Saturday, March 1—7:30 p.m.

Sunday, March 2—7:30 p.m.

The tent is set up in City Marketplace downtown. As always, there is plenty of free parking in downtown Punta Gorda.

On March 7, the show moves to Cape Coral, so if you miss it here in Punta Gorda, you still have a chance to catch it.
